Who can use Referrals?
The ability to make referrals is available to anyone who is:

My experience registering to the Zing app – Zing New user -Zing HSBC
Registering is fast. They start with an email (you verify your email), then a phone number, you will receive a verification code by text to confirm your phone number. Then you need to take a photo of your passport, activate your camera, and turn your head from left to right slowly. You also need a proof of your right to be in the UK (there are different options, UK passport, visa, share code…). Finally, they ask for your address, and you need a proof of address too or you can activate geolocation and after 15 seconds it can confirm your address. (I never saw this before, but it was quick).
It took me maybe 5 minutes to be fully approved, so it was really fast in my case. It’s all automated.
The debit card will be sent to your address for free. But you can add the card directly on your mobile phone to spend.
I did my first top-up with my Revolut in seconds.
Once you are up and running you need to spend £5 to be able to receive your new user reward. An easy way is to shop online or top-up your Amazon account of £5 for example.
Zing vs Wise
Zing is the HSBC version of wise. Wise and Zing are both international money transfer services that offer competitive exchange rates and low fees compared to traditional banks. Here’s a breakdown to help you choose:
Fees:
- Wise: Charges a transparent fee upfront, typically around 0.5% of the transfer amount, with additional fees for certain payment methods like ACH or wire transfer.
- Zing: Offers free Zing-to-Zing transfers and local bank transfers. Their standard conversion fee is 0.2%, but there’s a 1% fee for using your card abroad if the currency isn’t already in your wallet.
Features:
- Wise: Supports over 50 currencies, multiple payment methods, and boasts faster transfer times (sometimes instant). They also have a global presence.
- Zing: Supports 20 major currencies, with limited payment methods (no ACH or wire transfer yet). They offer a Visa debit card and are currently only available in the UK.
Overall:
- Wise: A well-established service with a broader range of features, faster transfers, and wider currency support. Ideal for frequent international transactions or large transfers.
- Zing: A newer service with competitive fees, especially for small transfers within their supported currencies. The debit card for spending abroad is convenient. However, their limited availability and features might be a drawback.
Choosing the right one depends on your needs:
- If you need to transfer money in many different currencies or want the fastest transfer times, Wise might be better.
- If you’re in the UK and prioritize low fees for smaller transfers or spending abroad with a debit card, Zing could be a good option.
