“You’ve read all your free member-only stories. Become a member to get unlimited access and support the voices you want to hear more from.” Are you familiar with this? There is a limit on free member-only stories and sometimes it’s a bit frustrating. You open a couple of articles without reading them fully and the next one you wish to read is blocked! Here is a little Medium membership hack about how to bypass the medium story limit.
If you read a lot of the content from Medium.com it makes sense to pay for the Membership and support the writers “A portion of your membership fee goes to the writers you read most.”
In my case, I sometimes click the titles, they are very clickbait type of titles that make you click! But I rarely spend hours and hours reading the article. It’s just something I do occasionally (I receive their newsletter, they got me to click from it ;)
Hacky ways to bypass the medium story limit
You might have read about twitting the article from “How to Read Medium Articles for Free – Lifehacker”, or “How To Bypass Medium Membership Limit” by Youness who tells us to copy-pasting the post in your own CMS like WordPress.
But really how to end with “You’ve read all your free member-only stories. Become a member to get unlimited access and support the voices you want to hear more from.”
My simple solution: use incognito window
You can do it with Chrome new incognito window to get an extra 2 articles.
You can also use a keyboard shortcut to open an Incognito window in Chrome:
- Windows, Linux, or Chrome OS: Press Ctrl + Shift + n.
- Mac: Press ⌘ + Shift + n.

This private mode is part of the browser. Brave is based on chrome, it’s “Three times faster than Chrome. Better privacy by default than Firefox. Uses 35% less battery on mobile”

Copy your link: You have 2 free member-only stories left this month.
Once you reach the max again “Read the rest of this story with a free account.”
- Copy the URL you want to read close that the private window with Tor
- Start again, open a new window with Tor, copy your URL in it and you are back!
This works as well to watch TV from other countries. I copy-paste my page URL and bye-bye the message “this content is not available in your country”
Another way to see articles that use ad blockers, for instance, check https://12ft.io/ or https://archive.ph/ or https://txtify.it/ and copy-paste the article URL into that tool!
